Rally for Immigrant Rights, Sat., Feb. 25 @ noon

February 20, 2006 · 8 comments

I just got this from a friend. There’s apparently a bill being proposed in the House that would make it a felony to be an undocumented immigrant. As if that wasn’t bad enough, it’s also a felony to knowingly aid someone who’s undocumented, such as by teaching an ESL class or being their social worker. Here’s a PDF of the Rally for Immigrant Rights flyer. The English text is:

Rally for Immigrant Rights
Saturday, February 25, 12 – 2 pm
Fruitvale District in Oakland,
St. Elizabeth’s schoolyard
1500 block of 34th Ave.

On December 16th, the U.S. House of Representatives passed HR 4437, one of the most anti-immigrant legislative proposals in recent memory. The proposed legislation would make it a felony to be in the U.S. without proper documents. The proposal now goes before the Senate.

Join us for a rally to defeat HR 4437!

Sponsored by the Northern California Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride

So let me get this staight. You support breaking the law? Furthermore, you don’t think that there should be a punishment for breaking the law? Shame on you!

    Your headline should read:

    “Rally for Illegal Immigrant Rights”

Wow! it is really amazing to see som much ignorance in people. Your ancestor came to this country looking for opportnity. Why should it be any different for people to continue to come here for a better life. Laws are made by men. Not agreeing with them does not mean you are a bad person or that you are wrong. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. This land belong to other people before we got here. We broke moral laws, and that is ok! People you should read a little history on how this country was formed. This LAW is just a disguised for continued racism and fear of a growing population. I think that there are other ways of protecting this country from terrorism!

It’s all about National Security! So they say. If George W. Bush is really worried about National Security I have a little piece of advise for the him. Stay away from Iran, leave Irak and stop taking Israel’s side. Maybe then we wont have to worry about muslims trying to kills us. If Americans are worried about ilegal inmigrants taking american jobs, then why dont you tell your President before he goes out to India and brags about how great it is to have american companies outsourcing jobs there. But wait? Isnt that CAPITALISM? I thought Americans love capitalism.

I can understand that the Americans are scared of terrorism, but why do us Mexicans have to suffer for that. My mother came form Mexico with my two sisters and pregnant by me crossing the border. I am 24 years old I don’t receive help form the government and I work helping people get restraining orders and child custody for domestic violent victims. My husband is from Mexico came over when he was 10 he has his AA degree in social science and in October will be getting his bachelors degree. He just passed his state test to be state license to refinance homes. We just bought our new home with out no ones help but just our own. Us Latinos are not here to cause trouble but are here to work and make a better life for our children, than the life’s our aunt sisters and mother and father had. We are here to work hard, get educated and show are children that anything is possible. What this people are doing is a horrific if this bill pass have they thought on how the economy will be. Have they thought how empty the class room will be, what are the farm laborers will be doing, who will be picking the grapes, oranges, lettuce, apples, olives, ect. All we can do is pray and let God tell us what we can do. Life is hard but us Mexicans have to stick together and give them a piece of our mind. We have to let them know how much they are going to loose. Martin Luther king had all African Americans not work, walk to work and all that good stuff just so they could see how much they needed them and how much they can loose. Us Mexicans say we have to go to work but what they do not understand is if they don’t stand for what is right they are not going to have a work to go to. We need to get together all immigrant people and stop one day are daily living meaning don’t go to work walk to your destinations and not send the children to school. The Americans will then know how much they need us. If any one wants to do something lets think together. E-mail me at cinthianedward@yahoo.com

I don’t get Americans you aren’t from here originally because you all have ancestors from somewhere else.No one is pure American and if Martin Luter king could change racisum then maybe we can change this. There are just so many ignorent people! We come here for the American Dream and you shoot us while crossing the border. You deport us and leave us on the border miles away from our home. Are first intention when we come here is to WORK. something you Americans should learn.I read an article on the paper the other day and it said that a man wanted to come to America to see his wife and new baby so he brought his 12 year old daughter along.Close to crossing they were both ran over by a Border patrol truk. His daughter was killed and he broke a leg and mest up hs back. They blamed him for indangering her by crossing the border with her.Yet the man who hit him was free of charge and was not even mentioned. The man said all he wanted to do was come and be with his wife and bring his daughter so they can be together. It’s things like this that are wrong. If you would like to say some thing back to me feel free and write to me at Leticiasd19@hotmail.com

I just have one question if I go into a store and steal or if I drink and drive I will go to jail. Right ! Why, because we live in a land of laws like it or not. I to am a hispanic american, my father came here many years ago but he did it legally. I feel for my people but the law is the law and it must be applied to everyone. We can’t pick and choose which laws we like and don’t like. I don’t want to see another 911 because we don’t know who is crossing our borders. I know I live in El Paso,TX and this is a border town there is nothing you can tell me about the border that I don’t already know. Listen I go to the store and MANY people pay with food stamps which is okay but then they get out and walk across the border. What is up with that I work 3 jobs to make a living and I don’t qualify to get assistance. Tell me you don’t see something wrong with that?
